The state land commissioner race is really important if you care about New Mexico’s lands, wildlife and schools. With management responsibility over 9 million acres of state trust land (more than 11 percent of the state) ,the Land Commissioner plays a major role in determining the health of New Mexico’s natural landscapes, for better or worse.
That’s why the Southwest Environmental Center, New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, New Mexico Wildlife Federation, Dona Ana County Associated Sportsmen, and the Rio Grande Chapter of the Sierra Club are hosting a candidates’ forum for the five candidates running for New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands, moderated by David Soules. All the candidates have confirmed they will attend. They are:
Garrett VeneKlasen (D)
George Munoz (D)
Stephanie Garcia Richard (D)
Patrick Lyons (R)
Michael Lucero (L)
Come and find out what the candidates have to say about how they plan to balance revenue generation and ecological stewardship of our state trust lands. Please spread the word.
