Support Reauthorization and Full Funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund

The Issue
The Land & Water Conservation Fund was established in 1964 in a bi-partisan effort to save our natural resources we as Americans all share. It is funded by a small portion of off shore drilling revenue. LWCF has provided $312 million to New Mexico for over 1200 recreation and conservation projects. The LWCF is authorized to receive $900 million annually but Congress regularly diverts over half these funds to other purposes.
LWCF funded sites are a cornerstone to New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy, which generates $9.9 billion annually in NM, and supports 99,000 jobs.
Notable New Mexico LWCF sites include: Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, Gila National Forest, and Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park.
