6:00 pm at council chambers in city hall

Mayor John Robert Smith

Will talk about planning, how to grow your downtown, economic development, smart growth, public transportation, quality of life, etc.

John Robert Smith served for 16 years as mayor of Meridian, MS, whose Union Station, his signature project, is recognized as one of the best multi-modal transportation centers in the country.

During his tenure as Mayor, John Robert received acclaim for his aggressive facilitation of the public-private partnerships that resulted in over $430M of infrastructure projects that bolstered the economy and quality of life for the people of Meridian.

He currently serves as Chairman of Transportation for America, where he advises on strategy, capacity building, and national outreach.

He is a senior policy adviser at Smart Growth America.

His work has carried him to 115 communities across the country.

He was a keynote speaker at AARP’s Livable Communities Rural Livability Workshop held in June.

AARP is also funding Mayor Smith’s visit to our community thanks to members of our local AARP who lobbied the state and national offices on our behalf.

Mayor Smith is a great public speaker with a very comforting, soothing, Mississippi drawl.  I think we will all enjoy his talk.
